In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Chisomo Chiwanga has emerged victorious in a girls FIFA 23 gaming tournament held at Extra Mile Development Foundation offices. The tournament saw eight girls Mzuzu competing against each other in a series of thrilling matches.

Chiwanga, who displayed exceptional gaming prowess, took home the top prize of K30,000, while Glory Banda claimed the runner-up position and a prize of K20,000. The third-place winner Elizabeth Mwale walked away with K15,000.

The tournament was organized with the aim of empowering and promoting the participation of girls in E-sports and gaming , which is traditionally been male-dominated.

Chiwanga, who emerged as the winner, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the tournament. She also encouraged other girls to pursue their passions and interests in gaming regardless of gender stereotypes.

“I recommend other girls to be involved in E-sports and gaming. It’s really fun and inflicts one with digital skills. I also advise parents that thy have to support their daughter to participate in these kind of activities. We have to embrace these and break the stereotype “she said.

Gaming Project Coordinator Misheck Gondwe expressed his satisfaction with the level of participation and the high quality of play demonstrated by the girls.

The EMDEF project, which is being implemented in partnership with the Transformation of Youth and Women Empowerment (TYWE), is supported with financial and technical assistance from Women Win under the Onside Gaming Fund. Over 200 girls in Mzuzu have directly and indirectly benefited from the project.
