EMDEF hands over sanitation facilities to Engcongolweni

Extra Mile Development Foundation (EMDEF) has officially handed over the sanitation facilities (Boys’ urinal and 4-roomed girls changeroom block) at Engcongolweni Primary school in Mzimba north on Monday, 28th November 2022.

The facilities worth $6750 have been built with $5000 funding from World Connect Malawi and $1,750 community contribution in terms of local resources (bricks, sand, unskilled labor, water, land).

Speaking after the hand over, EMDEF Executive Director Towera Ngwira said the sanitation facilities will go a long way in promoting education at the institution.

“These sanitation facilities benefiting 269 boys and 274 girls will reduce open urination and defecation around the school premises. The girls finally have a safe, private place to manage their menstruation hence reducing absenteeism rates. We have also provided buckets for bathing, handwashing, and cleaning purposes,” she said.

The area’s Councilor, Zone PEA, district SHN coordinator, district WASH coordinator, and school development Committee were present and recommended the development. Thank you so much World Connect, Engcongolweni community, and the Extra Mile team for your efforts.
